When reading a list of ailments that CranioSacral Therapy can help it can feel like reading a recipe-you probably won’t remember most of the list unless one ingredient is meaningful to you.  So, how do you know if your child would benefit from a CranioSacral Treatment?  By answering the following questions honestly you may find some clues that your child is trying to let  you know that they are having difficulty.

Infants

1.  Does your infant pull or tug at their head/ears frequently or push up against the end of the crib regularly?

2.  Is your infant having trouble latching onto the breast during breastfeeding?

3.  Is colic a daily event that is not calmed or comforted easily?

4.  Does your infants head lag to one side when tired, does he/she roll only in one direction or resist head turning?

Toddlers

1.  Does your toddler  have frequent constipation?

2.  Are your toddlers gross and fine motor skills behind other children their age?

3.  Does your toddler have trouble sleeping or wakes often with night terrors? Are they extra fearful or timid?

4.  Is thumb sucking lasting longer than is typical?

Young Children

1.  Has your child had a heavy fall from play equipment, been involved in a car accident, hit their head, fallen off their bike or toboggan  and seemed slow to recover from it?

2.  Is your child involved in a sport that involves contact or falling.

3.  Has your child experienced shock from family crises such as a close death in the family, move of home, change of school, surgery, extensive dental work, severe illness, medical testing or loss of a family pet?  Does your child talk frequently about this event with worried questions?  Do they have physical symptoms such as stomach aches or headaches that surfaced within a year after the event?

4.  Does your child have any physical symptoms that have been cleared by your physician but are persisting despite this reassurance?

Above are some of the indications for CranioSacral Therapy.  If you are unsure if it is appropriate for your child please contact one of the therapists listed in the first post of this blog who would be happy to discuss your child’s problems.
